TAG Precision Sights That Pop

TAG Precision Sights That Pop

The worst part about almost all handguns is the factory iron sights. Just about every handgun I’ve owned has come with the three white dot iron sights, or blacked out rear and front sight, or a combination of a blacked out rear sight and white dot front sight. These aren’t bad to use in the daylight, but as soon as the sun starts to set, there’s no telling where the front sight is or whether the front sight is aligned with the rear sight. The good news is that the aftermarket is flooded with replacement iron sights, so you can customize your pistol to your needs and your eyesight.

One manufacturer that makes quality aftermarket sights is TAG Precision. They make premium billet-steel sights that can withstand daily use on concealed-carry pistols. What makes this brand unique is its patented FiberLOK technology, which allows users to remove and replace fiber inserts in seconds with a simple adjustment of a single set screw.

If you’ve never experienced the old-fashioned way of having to remove and replace a damaged fiber optic, consider yourself lucky. This “melt and mushroom” process would usually require needle-nose pliers and a punch to remove the old fiber, then a lighter and a whole lot of patience to install the new one. The TAG Precision fibers are installed with a set screw behind each fiber that keeps it in place. These sights also feature a machined lens for a crisp sight picture with no dim outer-ring effect. No lighter or melting is required to remove or install fresh new fiber.

Installing TAG Precision Sights

Back in the day, I’d use a punch and a hammer to remove iron sights from my handguns. There were only so many iron-sight installation tools on the market a decade ago, and most were specific to a single gun manufacturer. Now that it’s 2026, there are more options for sight pushers, and I can put down the hammer and punch. The tool I recommend is the Real Avid Master Sight Pusher, a professional-grade pistol sight installation tool. What’s convenient about the Master Sight Pusher is that it’s compatible with most striker-fired and 1911 pistols.

This powerful tool is easy for anyone to use and features non-marring contact surfaces to protect the slide finish. The oversized Easy Torque Handle gives you all the torque you need to push iron sights on or off. It also features a reversible press block that fits any dovetail slot down to 5/32inch (4mm) wide. It also has a bench vise attachment ridge that allows me to secure it in my Master Gun Vise. With the versatility of this gun vise, I was able to tilt and position the Master Sight Pusher to an angle that worked best for me. It’s worth the investment to purchase this tool to ensure a correct installation, to prevent damage to your firearm or new sights, and especially if you plan to install new sights on multiple firearms.

TAG Precision Sights

TAG Precision sent me two sets of full fiber optics for my Kimber Micro 9 and CANiK Mete pistol, and a set of optics-ready sights with a front fiber optic and blacked out rear sight for my Walther PDP-F. The two former handguns were not outfitted with a red dot optic, so the plan was to just swap the iron sights on those guns.

The Walther had the SCS PDP 2.0 optic on it, so the TAG Sights were perfect to co-witness through the red dot sight. While the front sight came with the red fiber installed, TAG Precision includes an optional green front fiber in the packaging insert, so you can choose red or green without ordering extra fiber or a specific sight kit. The Optics Ready sights from TAG are taller than their Tactical sights. The overall front height is 0.365 inches, while the front blade height is 0.317 inches, meaning that is what’s viewable once installed. The overall rear sight height is 0.398 inches, with a viewable rear blade height of 0.315 inches.

The Kimber and CANiK TAG Sights are both tactical (TAC) and Fiber (TSF) sights. The TAC sights include a ledge to enable one-handed slide operation. These are also optimized for slides without optics, as they’re shorter and not recommended for co-witnessing. The fiber (TSF) sights feature two fibers on either side of the rear sight and a front fiber optic sight. These sights also use FiberLok technology, which lets you switch out fiber colors with the included hex key. The TAG TSF sights are also finished in QPQ Nitride and are made from billet steel using CNC technology. All of that to say that these sights were built to last.

On The Range

I’m not normally much of an iron-sight shooter, but the TAG Precision sights are so vibrant, making it as easy to pick up the front sight as a red dot optic. My favorite sight ended up being the front red fiber sight on the Walther PDP-F. I practiced focusing on the front sight through the glass and worked on shooting with the co-witness iron sights, rather than focusing on the dot. The sights are higher than they appear online or out of the box, where the front sight just about perfectly aligns with the optic zero. I think TAG Precision makes a great product. If you’re in the market for new iron sights, especially fiber optic ones, they’re worth checking out.
