COWETA COUNTY, GA — An Amazon delivery driver shot and killed a dog after the animal attacked him during a stop in Coweta County, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

As reported by 11 Alive, the driver told deputies the dog was off its runner when it approached and attempted to bite him. He then fired his firearm, killing the dog on scene.

Deputies said the incident appears to be self-defense based on the initial on-scene investigation. Coweta County Animal Control has been notified and will conduct a separate review.

Delivery drivers face unique risks on the job. They regularly step onto unfamiliar properties with little information about what they may encounter. A loose dog closing the distance with intent to bite leaves almost no time to react, and retreating is not always possible when the animal is faster than the person being attacked.

This case is a reminder that defensive tools matter in ordinary situations, not just extreme ones. The Second Amendment protects the fundamental right of law-abiding Americans to carry the means of defending themselves against violent threats, whether the threat comes from a person or an animal.

The sheriff’s office has not publicly identified the driver or the dog’s owner. The animal control review is ongoing.
