For those wanting a reliable, moderately priced tactical watch, the 5.11 Tactical Outpost Chrono watch steps up to the task. This timepiece’s impressive specs emphasize rugged tactical features while maintaining its mechanical precision in the field. With the Outpost firmly strapped to my wrist, I tested both claims. The notable results confirmed to me that it’s time for you to make the purchase.

Overall Fit and Comfort
If a watch isn’t comfortable, odds are you won’t wear it often, if at all. I must admit that directly out of the packaging, I was unsure how this watch would feel on my wrist. The camo-patterned band appeared a bit coarse and rigid at first sight and first touch.
Luckily, I was entirely wrong with my assumption. The band coiled around my wrist without resistance and secured firmly in place. The band hardware was solid, whereas sometimes you’ll find a flimsy pin that bends as you force it into your desired position.

On my wrist, the watch felt great. It wasn’t bulky or top-heavy. Additionally, the watch didn’t move as I walked and moved about. It’s an annoyance when a watch slips up and down your wrist, or when it rotates around your wrist. The Outpost stayed firm, and that was a huge win.
On-the-Surface Features
The Outpost Chrono watch offers a well-balanced number of features, along with its tactical-first aesthetic. Let’s be honest, overstuffing a watch with features you truly won’t use is nothing but padding the specs list.

This watch has what you need and nothing you don’t. Analog time, with prominent easy-to-read numbers and a color-contrasting second hand, was a good start. Micro-dials on the watch face featured the stopwatch, military time, and timer. On the right side of the body were three easy-to-push buttons. The pull-down crown made time adjustment easy, while the other two controlled the stopwatch’s start/stop feature and reset function.

Not all of the Outpost’s features can be found with the push of a button. The watch is water resistant up to 330 feet, so unexpected rainstorms or impromptu submersion won’t be an issue. Additionally, the hands and hour marks are coated with luminous material, making night or low-light use no problem. The stainless-steel casing has a protective IP coating, and its 22mm band is fully removable.

In-The-Field or Everyday Use
Although this watch exhibits tactical characteristics, as well as visual cues that it’s an in-the-field timepiece, it certainly can be worn for everyday use. For outdoor excursions, such as camping, hunting, fishing, or hiking, the Outpost is well-suited to keep up with your adventures as well as face nature’s unpredictable elements. However, when you’re going out for dinner or other casual getaways, the watch won’t appear out of place on your wrist.
I have the Woodland camo-patterned version, but a black band and face variety is also available. Furthermore, with its easy-to-remove band, you can customize it to match your particular event or occasion.

A Smart Buy
The Outpost Chrono watch is a solid entry for reliable performance, durable construction, and a price tag that won’t break the bank. Although not chock-full of gadgets and gizmos, it provides the practical necessities a field-centric watch always needs.
Without a doubt, this timepiece finds its place in most rural or urban settings, allowing you an undeniable, up-to-the-minute advantage.
