5.11’S Urban Duo Readies You for In-City Travel

When the city is your backyard, and you’re constantly traversing the concrete jungle, discretion and toughness are necessary. You can have both with 5.11’s COVRT24 41L backpack and their trusted Original Pants. This 5.11 duo offers a tactical feel, all the while exhibiting a nondescript design to ensure you blend into the background.

With my pants tightened and the backpack slung, I set out to determine if there was more to these two than just urban simplicity. I quickly discovered an overflow of numerous benefits and remarkable features.

5.11 Urban Duo: A Complementary Pairing

This 5.11 duo incorporates their Original Pants (yes, that’s its name) and the COVRT24 41L Backpack. The pants boast a blend of comfort, durability, and usefulness with their multiple cargo-style pockets. The COVRT pack allows you to carry everything from clothing and personal items for a weekend getaway to survival items if bugging out is a very real possibility.

You can choose from a staggering eleven colors and patterns for the pants, and three pattern/color combinations for the pack. With these two items geared towards urban adventures, they are a natural combination.

Digging into Durability

The city is riddled with rough concrete and rusted metal, and these products must stand up to it regularly. As I examined the Original Pants, I noticed some useful features.

They offered reinforced stress points at the seat and knees, both areas that are put under constant duress. Additionally, double stitching was noticed, as were bar-tacked points, also in high-stress areas. As for the COVRT backpack, it too exuded extreme durability. 500D/840D nylon made up its body, while reinforced shoulder straps, compression straps, and buckles were clearly evident.

Urban-Centric Features

Of course, any pair of pants and any type of backpack can be used in the city, but these two offer urban-specific traits. First, the pack holds a dual-access CCW compartment with a loop panel holder. This allows quick retrieval of your firearm if trouble comes your way. Additionally, twin side water bottle pockets keep hydration a priority while under the powerful reflective sunlight.

An integrated laptop compartment is ideal for work on the go or during air travel. The Original Pants also have city-centric features such as UPF 50 protection and weather-ready fabric for nature’s ever-changing elements. They also hold a lot of gear. Dual side cargo pockets perfectly held my phone, wallet, and keys, while the twin back pockets kept my knife and compact flashlight safe and secure.

Even after all that, I still had room for more necessities, if I needed.

The Feel of the Two

As soon as I put the pants on, the difference between them and “regular” cargo pants was immediately obvious. They felt all-around sturdy, from the thickness of the fabric to the double-stitched seams, waistband, and belt loops. The fit was on the baggier side, at least compared to straight leg or slim styles.

The pants were both loose and rigid at the same time, as odd as that may sound. For example, my movement was unimpeded and fluid when I walked, yet the material didn’t fold or collapse downward on itself.

As for wearing the pack, it sported a distinct low-profile carry, which I applauded. The more discreet your pack, the less interest it may have from others. The cushioned straps did their job with no stress on my shoulders. The concealed carry zippered compartment was easily accessible, and weight distribution and pack balance were both superb.

Blending In

If discretion is your want, then these two items make that come true. By adding a nondescript T-shirt and either sneakers or low-rise boots, you can blend easily into your surroundings. As mentioned, the pants come in nearly a dozen colors and patterns, and the COVRT has three offerings. Combined, you can mix and match for ultimate discretion as you move about the cityscape.

Seamless Fusion or Stand-Alone Excellence

No matter if you choose to combine the 5.11 duo or use them separately, you can’t go wrong either way. The duo is priced right (Original Pants at $70.00 and the COVRT24 41L at $140.00) and tough enough to endure repeated wear and use.

Everyone needs a pair (or two) of comfortable pants and a reliable, go-to urban-use backpack. Lucky for you, here they are.
