The confrontation reportedly began near Five Points and continued until one driver entered Carle Hospital’s emergency department parking lot, seemingly attempting to distance themselves. However, a female driver and her male passenger followed. The situation escalated when the woman exited her vehicle with a baseball bat, and the male passenger approached the solo driver with his hand concealed under his shirt, giving the impression he was armed.
The solo driver, a concealed carry permit holder, perceived a threat and drew their legally carried firearm, firing multiple shots at the advancing male passenger. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in intensive care.
