GOA Urges Trump to Pick Pro-2A Attorney General

A major gun-rights organization is rallying its membership to urge President Donald Trump to replace recently fired U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi with someone with stronger convictions about protecting the Second Amendment.

Gun Owners of America (GOA) recently said that gun owners across America are “breathing a sigh of relief” with Bondi’s departure.

“Bondi came in with a weak 2A record and made things worse as attorney general,” GOA said in a national alert to members. “Under her watch, two Biden-era gun rules Trump promised to kill on day one are still on the books: the pistol brace ban and Biden’s universal background check rule.

“She never completed the Second Amendment report that the President ordered. And her DOJ bragged to Congress about the ATF, the same agency that spent four years targeting gun owners.”

Now that she’s gone, GOA leaders want President Trump to choose carefully when selecting Bondi’s successor.

“Now Trump has the chance to get it right,” GOA wrote in the alert. “The next attorney general can end enforcement of every Biden-era ATF rule, settle pro-gun litigation with binding commitments, and stop defending unconstitutional gun laws in court.”

GOA feels so strongly about the matter that it is encouraging its members nationwide to send a letter to President Trump, urging him to select a strong, Second Amendment-focused attorney general. The organization has even prepared a pre-written letter that members can simply sign and send to the White House.

“With the departure of Attorney General Pam Bondi, you now have an extraordinary opportunity to deliver on the promises that energized millions of gun owners in 2024,” the letter states. “I urge you to appoint a new attorney general who will finally bring the Department of Justice into full alignment with your pro-Second Amendment agenda.

The letter also reminds the president that in the 2024 elections, gun owners did not vote to preserve the status quo at the Department of Justice.

“We voted for you to de-weaponize federal power and reorient the DOJ toward protecting our constitutional rights, instead of being used against us,” the letter states. “… the Second Amendment community stood with you. Now we are asking you to deliver for us. Please appoint a new attorney general who will be a true champion for the Second Amendment, someone who will put constitutional rights first and finish the job you promised to do.”

Ultimately, GOA is asking all of its members to send the letter in hopes of getting the president’s attention on the matter.

“Don’t let this moment pass,” the alert stated. “The Biden-era gun rules are still on the books. The ATF is still open. The fight isn’t over. With your help, we can ensure a pro-2A champion is our country’s next attorney general.”
