HOUSTON, TX – A routine Tuesday afternoon at a north Houston pawn shop turned into a parking lot shootout after two masked men robbed the store and an armed female customer followed them outside.

As reported by Click2Houston, around 2 p.m. on March 24, 2026, Houston Police Department North Belt division officers responded to the 12800 block of Airline Drive near Aldine Bender Road following reports of a robbery in progress. According to HPD Lieutenant Larry Crowson, two men wearing hoodies and masks entered the store and stole jewelry directly from employees.

As the suspects ran out of the store, a female customer yelled at them and followed them into the parking lot. The woman was armed, and a shootout broke out between her and the two suspects. Authorities said it remains unclear who fired first.

The woman was struck in the thigh during the exchange and transported to the hospital. As confirmed by Houston Police via Twitter, she is listed in stable condition.

More from USA Carry:

The suspects fled the scene in a Suburban SUV. Investigators located the vehicle abandoned nearby and confirmed it had been reported stolen. Both suspects remained at large as of the time of reporting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

A lot about this incident remains unclear, including who fired first. It is possible the suspects turned and threatened her after she followed them outside, and she fired in lawful self-defense. We simply do not have enough details to know.

What we do know is that she left the store and followed them. That single decision put her in the middle of a gunfight. She survived with a non-fatal injury, but the outcome could have been much worse. Armed citizens should think carefully about the difference between responding to a threat and walking toward one.
