When You Want a Shotgun Close at Hand But Secure

If you are like me, you want a shotgun close at hand without leaving it unsecured. The RAPiD Safe Shotgun Wall Lock hits a sweet spot. It fixes to a wall stud, grips the receiver, and gives you fast access with RFID or a keypad. You can mount it vertically or horizontally in a closet or behind a door. This ensures the gun is handy but out of the way. The result is a simpler, quicker access for you.

A Solid and Compact Safe Storage Solution

Hornady builds this lock around touch-free RFID access, and the package includes everything you need. In the box, you get an adjustable RFID wristband, a key fob, and two RFID decals. You can program up to five RFID tags to the lock. This feature is helpful if you want both you and a partner to have access. There is also a single-user keypad code you set between four and six digits. Additionally, there is a pair of barrel keys as the last backup.

Construction is serious. The housing is 14-gauge steel with internal hardened locking lugs that grab the action. Hornady rates the design to exceed standard ASTM International tests. These tests include child and pry resistance, lock strength, drop and pick resistance, and hinge attacks.

Plug it in or Use Batteries

Power is a bonus with this safe. You have the option to plug it into the wall for daily use. Then drop four AA batteries in as a backup so it still opens during an outage. The keypad LED doubles as a battery check.

Mounting is simple and easy. The lock body bolts to a stud, and a separate muzzle ring supports the barrel so the gun sits balanced. When you hang the shotgun, the chamber rests on a molded block that aligns with the ejection port. Follow the template, pre-drill, tighten the lag screws, and test the action a few times before you call it done. If you plan to run it on AC power, route the cord before you tighten things down.

Compact Size

Size matters when you are trying to keep a long gun hidden. The lock body is compact at roughly 9.5 by 8.5 by 2.8 inches. Because of this, it can tuck behind a door or in a closet corner without drawing attention. That footprint also makes it easy to place high enough that curious hands cannot reach it.

Using the safe is simple. If you choose RFID, wear the wristband or keep the fob where you stage your light and phone. If you prefer the buttons are easy to run even in low light. Either way, open the lock, get a positive grip, and lift the gun clear of the muzzle ring in one motion.
