The Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation (OTF) has appointed Keith G. Tidball, Ph.D., as its new Executive Director. Tidball brings decades of conservation leadership, outdoor education experience, and public service work to the organization.
What is the OTF?
The OTF is a national leader in outdoor education for students in grades K–12. The organization has been around for forty years, and was aquired last year by Safari Club International. The mission is to secure the future of hunting through education, advocacy, and hands-on experience.
Why Keith Tidball Was Chosen to Lead
Tidball steps into the role with a background that blends science, education, hunting advocacy, and community engagement.
Most recently, he served on the faculty at Cornell University within the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. His work focused heavily on conservation social science, outdoor recreation education, community-based natural resource management, and veterans’ engagement. He also held an administrative role as Assistant Director with Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Over the course of his career, Tidball has become known for promoting science-based conservation efforts while emphasizing the broader value of time spent outdoors—not just for recreation, but for personal resilience, community connection, and mental well-being.
“Keith brings an exceptional combination of scientific credibility and practical leadership,” W. Laird Hamberlin, CEO of Safari Club International, said. “As a veteran and SCI Life Member, he understands our mission at a personal level. His experience and vision will help us introduce new audiences to hunting, fishing, and conservation while strengthening the future of outdoor recreation.”
Aligned Timing
His appointment comes at a time when many organizations in the outdoor industry are placing renewed emphasis on Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) efforts, initiatives aimed at growing participation in hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation.
“As Executive Director, I’m honored to advance OTF’s mission while contributing to SCI’s Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) and conservation efforts,” Tidball said. “OTF sits at the intersection of conservation, education, outdoor recreation, and community. By expanding access, strengthening partnerships, and staying grounded in science and tradition, we can ensure the outdoors remains relevant and welcoming for generations to come.”
Looking Towards the Future of OTF
In his new position, Tidball will oversee OTF’s strategic direction, partnerships, fundraising efforts, and program development. According to the organization, a major focus moving forward will be expanding outdoor education opportunities while creating stronger pathways for youth and families to connect with hunting, fishing, and conservation.

As participation numbers continue to fluctuate nationwide, leaders throughout the industry increasingly see outdoor education and mentorship as essential to the future of conservation itself. OTF’s decision to bring in a leader with deep roots in both science and hands-on outdoor engagement signals a continued push toward blending traditional outdoor values with modern outreach and education strategies.
