The Aimpoint Duty RDS Upgrade

Aimpoint is unquestionably a premium brand. Their optics are the glass of choice for professionals worldwide. One of their more popular optics has been the Duty RDS. It has proven itself to be durable and reliable in real-world use. Today, Aimpoint raises the bar on that optic with the release of the Duty RDS MR.
Adding More Options – The Aimpoint Duty RDS MR
The new Aimpoint Duty RDS MR takes that same successful optic and adds multiple reticles. The MR (Multi-Reticle) optic now lets you choose between three reticle options. You can run a clean 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or both together. That flexibility matters when your shooting day shifts from close quarters to longer shots, or when you want a fast visual reference for holds.

“With the Duty RDS MR, we are expanding the Aimpoint legacy by combining our proven design principles with new flexibility,” says Albert Rödfalk, senior product manager at Aimpoint AB. “It’s a robust solution built to meet the real-world needs of professionals.”
Three Different Reticles
Application-wise, it is brilliant. The standard 2 MOA dot keeps your sight picture uncluttered and precise. The circle-dot setup is excellent for snap shooting at close targets because the big ring draws your eye to center while the dot gives you the exact point of aim. If you’re working a wide transition drill, the 65 MOA ring provides quick target acquisition and reference. You get the speed of a ghost-ring style sight with the durability of a sealed red dot. It is simple to switch among the modes, and Aimpoint designed the system to help you aim by instinct, not menu diving.

Battery life and controls are classic Aimpoint. The Duty RDS MR runs on a single CR2032 cell and is rated for 30,000 hours of constant operation at the typical daylight setting. In plain English, that is almost three and a half years of leave-it-on use. The brightness ladder includes dedicated night-vision levels and a wide range of daylight settings, allowing you to adjust it from a dark hallway to a bright desert range without having to fight with the buttons.
Built for Serious Shooters
Built for law enforcement, professional users, and competitive shooters, the Duty RDS MR features instant-on motion activation, a side-loading battery compartment, and a pressure-forged aluminum housing that is submersible to 25 meters (80 feet). It is engineered to endure shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures.
Aimpoint ships the MR with a one-piece torsion-nut mount that sets the optical axis at 39 mm. That height works well on AR-pattern rifles and gives you a natural cheek weld with standard stocks. It is a set-and-forget mount that you can torque, witness mark, and ignore while you focus on shooting.

Effective at Many Ranges
A little time on the range and you will see the benefits of this optic. Personally, I zero the dot at 50 yards and keep the ring as my quick reference. Inside of 15 yards, the 65 MOA circle gives you a coarse bracket for center-mass hits on full-size targets. At 25 to 100, switch to the dot or the circle-dot combo to aim with more care. The dot is crisp and small enough to print clean groups without chasing a starburst. The glass is bright, and the sight picture feels open, which makes tracking a target during transitions easy. If you run night vision, the MR retains the dedicated NV levels, allowing you to manage tube bloom while still achieving a usable aiming point.

Aimpoint Duty RDS MR
The Aimpoint Duty RDS MR keeps everything that made the Duty RDS a workhorse and adds reticle versatility that actually pays off. You get a clear 2 MOA dot, the option for a fast 65 MOA circle, and the ability to run both. You get a long-haul runtime, a proven CR2032 power source, real water resistance, and a mount that works out of the box on standard rifles. If you want a rugged red dot that can shift gears between speed and precision without changing optics, the MR model is an honest, well-thought-out answer.
