Jack Wolf Knives Stockman About to be in Stock, Man

There’s a new model joining Jack Wolf’s Gateway series next week – the Stockman. The ergonomics and blade shape hew close to the core concepts of this historical pattern, but are rendered in the expected modern, but affordable, materials of the Jack Wolf Gateway series.

The Stockman pattern earned its name from its original clientele. It began to circulate particularly among cattlemen, who appreciated having a compact cutting tool for long days on the farm or trail. Like many traditional knife patterns, a Stockman’s most recognizable feature is its handle design: a dogleg shape, and here on the Jack Wolf interpretation it looks to be a thicker dog leg than usual – maybe a bull dogleg. The asymmetry of this handle shape makes it easy to index your grip by identifying the side the blade fold out from.

The Stockman’s single blade is large enough for many EDC tasks

Yes – unlike many Stockman patterns, the Jack Wolf Stockman is a single blade design. This follows the company style, where all-purpose single blades are favored over multiple, more specialized ones. The Stockman’s blade length is 3.13 inches, and it’s made from Sandvik’s much-loved 14C28N, an easygoing stainless with good edge retention and high corrosion resistance. There’s not enough of either trait to qualify it as a super steel, but even enthusiasts will not complain about 14C28N’s performance, and it is undoubtedly easier to deal with on the sharpening stones.

Steel bolsters can be found on either end of the Jack Wolf Stockman – another signature visual element of the traditional pattern. The cover materials between those bolsters, however, have a lot more modern character and, as usual over at Jack Wolf, deviate from the norm quite a bit. There’s a Camo Carbon option called Watermelon Sugar, and a Kirinite option that Jack Wolf is calling Root Beer, but that is giving KnifeNews Orange vibes to us…anyway, all versions of the Jack Wolf Stockman weight around 3 oz., so this Stockman isn’t too Stocky.

The model is releasing on July 17th.
