Henry Repeating Arms Launches Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine

Henry Repeating Arms has officially begun shipping the new H014 Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine, a lever-action rifle developed in collaboration with the hunting experts at Big Woods Bucks. Designed specifically for whitetail hunters who pursue deer in dense timber, the rifle was recently unveiled during a launch event at Frank’s Gun Shop in Upstate New York.

The new model is based on Henry’s Long Ranger platform but incorporates several modifications aimed at improving handling and performance in tight woods environments where shots are often close-range and opportunities can disappear in seconds.

At the center of those changes is a shortened 18.5-inch round blued steel barrel. The compact configuration reduces the rifle’s overall length to 39 inches while keeping weight below seven pounds. Thus making it easier to carry and maneuver through dense timber.

The Big Woods Set Up

The rifle comes equipped with a factory-installed Skinner peep sight paired with a bright fiber-optic front sight. The setup is designed to provide fast target acquisition and improved visibility during the low-light conditions.

Chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62×51 NATO, the H14 Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine carries four rounds and utilizes Henry’s geared lever-action system paired with a six-lug rotating bolt. The receiver is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and finished in a hard-anodized matte black coating.

Built For Big Woods Hunting

The collaboration reflects the hunting philosophy of Big Woods Bucks, a group of experienced woodsmen from the Northeast known for their traditional approach to tracking mature whitetails through vast tracts of timber. To commemorate the partnership, the rifle features a genuine American walnut stock engraved with the BWB logo and accented with the group’s signature green plaid design.

“The Long Ranger Big Woods Carbine is the perfect choice for lever-action hunting in the Big Woods,” Hal Blood, master Maine guide, author, and renowned deer tracker, said. “The short, light, smooth action topped with a Skinner peep sight is the perfect combination.”

George Thompson, Director of Product at Henry Repeating Arms, said the collaboration provided valuable insight into what serious timber hunters need from a rifle.

“The Long Ranger has always been one of our most capable hunting platforms, and this collaboration gave us a clear direction for what a timber-specific version should look like,” Thompson said. “We’re proud of the trust that the BWB has placed in our Long Ranger, and I look forward to seeing our customers’ successful hunts this upcoming deer season.”
