Due to their tacky, textured surface, this alteration is ideal for individuals with smaller or sweatier hands. This is because they offer improved traction and a more natural feel while shooting.
Backstrap modifications are designed to change the shape, size, or angle of the rear portion of a firearm’s grip. This upgrade is typically accomplished with aftermarket systems or factory-interchangeable backstraps.
Texture enhancements are designed to change the surface of a grip, improving an individual’s comfort, control, and traction. Two popular permanent methods are stippling and checkering. Stippling involves using a heated tool to melt tiny, pinhead-sized indentations on polymer frames, while checkering is accomplished on metal frames, creating fine, intersecting lines.

My personal favorite grip modifications are temporary texture enhancements, specifically adhesive grips or tape. This modification typically consists of thin, precut tacky panels designed to attach to the frame of a firearm. These decals are not only nonslip but are also designed to enhance the appearance of a firearm with different colors and patterns.
Rubber, granulate, and hybrid materials are three popular adhesive textures. One brand I recommend is TALON grips, which are available for many firearm models, easy to install, and provide extra comfort while handling your tool.

2 – Weapon-Mounted Lights
Weapon-mounted lights are designed to illuminate a shooter’s environment, allowing users to easily identify and disorient their targets. This modification attaches directly to a firearm and typically features switches to enable hands-free operation.
One of my first light modifications was the Streamlight TLR-6 Gun Light. This light is designed to attach to the trigger guard, making it suitable for subcompact and micro-compact pistols. Furthermore, the TLR-6 was straightforward to install, making it an extremely beginner-friendly and effective option.

Most handguns are manufactured with standard front and rear iron sights. However, to improve accuracy and visibility, many users will choose to upgrade to red dot optics. These sights are popular because they allow users to keep both eyes open while shooting and achieve faster target acquisition.

While it is not impossible to install a red dot yourself, non-optic-ready handguns typically require either professional installation or an aftermarket adapter plate.
