First Look: SIG Sauer P226 X-Five Reserve

SIG Sauer has just unveiled the P226 X-Five Reserve, a new special-edition, all-steel model of the venerable SIG Sauer P226 9mm pistol. While the original SIG Sauer P226 was built around an aluminum frame with a traditional double action/single action trigger, the new steel-framed SIG P226 X-Five Reserve instead is created with a heavier steel frame to combine the accuracy and shooting prowess of the classic P226’s design with an all-steel frame and metal grips for added ballast. This one-of-a-kind edition also uses a single-action-only trigger with a pair of ambidextrous competition-style manual thumb safeties. The uniquely machined slide on this pistol can accommodate mounted optics, but it also includes adjustable competition-style iron sights. Likewise, the front end of the slide has an integrated compensator to aid in returning the sights back on target more quickly.

SIG Reserve pistols come from a special product line with an emphasis on more upscale features such as discerning finishes such as high-polish DLC (diamond like coating) on the slides and frame. The P226 X-Five Reserve includes matching black GridLok metal grips from Lok Grips which add more mass to the frame to help keep the gun settled in recoil. This is a popular accessory used by elite shooters in competitive pistol categories. The single-action trigger itself is re-profiled with a flat face, also something else that makes part of the style of the current day. To complete the package the new SIG Sauer P226 X-Five Reserve includes three separate 20-round magazines with alloy basepads in a matching black finish. Finally, the SIG Sauer P226 X-Five includes another piece of flair, a “gas pedal” mounted to its frame on the left side to support speed shooting.
