There are some fresh new prototypes cropping up over at chez We Knife, with one such being today’s object of discussion, the Cavelle – a lean and mean (but not small) folder from the hypermodern school of design.
The narrow, swedge-sporting, fuller-flaunting drop point blade on the Cavelle measures 3.78 inches long. That’s a sizable piece, reminiscent of We’s early days, when they laid a heavy emphasis on hefty blades. Their catalog is much more diverse these days, but We’s in-house team still finds space for the big blades – and even at this size, the Cavelle could certainly be flexed into a daily carry for many, and be a capable one at that.

For the steel, it’s business as usual on the Cavelle – and for We, business as usual is M390, a proven winner in the super steel category with a reliable blend of characteristics that still rate highly today, even though it is no longer newest thing on the powder metallurgical block. Of course, what We has shown us of this piece so far is marked as a prototype, so steel could change before the Cavelle actually releases.
The titanium handle is slim, angular, with minimal detailing – a tasteful, exact counterpart to the blade. There is of course a steel capped frame lock on the off-side, along with a sculpted titanium pocket clip – not a reversible one, however. The Cavelle packs all of this into a fairly slim frame, and weighs 3.55 oz.
No hard release date on the Cavelle just yet. Stay tuned.
