Several years ago, I had the opportunity to test-drive a new Barrett rifle. It was the first release of the REC 10, and it was a sexy, accurate, easy shooting beast. I fell in love with it and considered it to be one of the best professional-level rifles I have run. It had great potential, but sometimes success gets in the way. Barrett was buried with military orders for another rifle, and the REC 10 had to be put on the shelf. At the 2026 SHOT show, however, I was informed that this great rifle was now ready for a comeback. The Barrett REC10 returns to the lineup. This new version brings back the acclaimed platform, featuring refinements for enhanced durability and performance in both suppressed and unsuppressed modes.
Barrett REC10 – The Legend Returns
After being placed on production hold due to Barrett’s prioritization of its MRAD MK 22 contract, the REC10 returns to the lineup by popular demand. Redefining premium precision and resilience, the REC10 is a direct-impingement, semi-automatic rifle developed through advanced engineering and rigorous testing to perform in the most demanding conditions. Featuring an optimized gas system that minimizes recoil and premium hardware throughout, the REC10 delivers exceptional accuracy, durability, and tactical versatility for professional and civilian users alike.

High-Performance AR-10 Platform
The REC10 is a high-performance AR-10 platform. They are offering it in a DMR or LR configuration. It is available in .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor with either a 16-inch or 20-inch barrel, depending on the model. Out of the box, Barrett guarantees sub-MOA performance with this rifle. The REC10 is fully ambidextrous with an ambi bolt release, safety selector, and magazine release. Components on the gun are world-class and include an AGL-QMS TriggerTech trigger, a TB-41 DLC-coated bolt carrier group, an H2 buffer with a flat wire spring, and a Hux Works muzzle device. The action is all business as well, with an integrated strike face and an anti-tilt bolt carrier finished with super-tough DLC coating.

Billet Upper and Lower
The upper and lower are cut from billet 7075-T8 for durability. Barrett uses its own unique gas block, which is easily serviceable by end users. Charging handle-wise, they selected Radian for its performance and ease of use. Wrapping it up is the furniture. The REC10 comes with a Magpul stock, pistol grip, and flip-up sights.

Barrett shared, “Every component of the REC10 is specifically designed to guarantee the reliability, durability, and accuracy customers expect from the Barrett name; no corners cut, no detail overlooked.”

Barrett REC10
I am personally excited about the return of the REC10 and hope to get one in for a test drive. If you are looking for a high-performance rifle that cuts no corners, the REC10 needs to be on your list.
