Al Capone was one of the nation’s most notorious criminals. Ruthless and feared, he ruled a mob empire with an iron hand. While he has gone down in the chapters of history for his crimes, he is equally well known for the guns he chose. One of the most legendary was his personal pistol. Now SK Guns has taken the time and painstaking effort to recreate Al Capone’s “Sweetheart” Colt 1911.

Al Capone’s “Sweetheart” Colt 1911 – An Iconic Pistol

SK Guns is proud to remake the iconic Chicago Mob Boss Al Capone’s “Sweetheart” Colt 1911. Chambered in .45 ACP, this is a limited-edition recreation of only 200 firearms.

The “Sweetheart” 1911, associated with Al Capone, is one of the most iconic and romanticized firearms of the Prohibition era. This custom Colt 1911 reflects both the personal and symbolic sides of Capone. Additionally, it blends sentiment with the hard-edged reality of organized crime in 1920s America.

The pistol itself follows the classic Government Model design, which had already earned a reputation for reliability and stopping power. What elevates this particular firearm beyond a standard sidearm is its connection to Capone’s personal life. The nickname “Sweetheart” is widely believed to be a reference to Mae Capone, his wife. Therefore, even one of the most feared figures of the era carried something that represented loyalty and affection.

Represents History

“Historically, this 1911 represents more than just Capone himself. It embodies the broader culture of the Prohibition era, where crime figures adopted both extravagance and symbolism in their possessions,” said Simon Khiabani, owner and founder of SK Guns. “Today, Al Capone’s ‘Sweetheart’ 1911 remains a fascinating artifact, merging craftsmanship, history, and the mystique of one of America’s most infamous figures.”

The pistol features detailed floral engraving, a hallmark of high-end Colts from the period. These engravings often included scrollwork and personalized inscriptions, transforming the weapon into both a functional tool and a piece of art. Such embellishments were common among wealthy or powerful individuals. Consequently, they wanted their firearms to reflect status and identity.

The gun sights are custom-made to match those of Capone’s Sweetheart Colt 1911 with an adjustable rear sight and a partridge front serrated staked sight. The front strap has been checkered, and a newly designed checkered mainspring housing is installed.

Custom Scrolling

Details on the left side of the gun’s slide showcase the traditional patent roll marks from Colt Manufacturing Company of its era. Additionally, the same floral scroll embellishes the right slide of the slide like the original Capone Sweetheart Colt 1911.

The right side of the gun’s slide features the “Colt Automatic Caliber .45” with Rampart roll marks of its era, along with the Government Model on the dust cover. More floral scrolls continue to embellish, as does the original Capone Sweetheart Colt 1911 with the series number of 001 through 200 on the rear panel.

The frame, slide, and hardware are all polished and blued. The grips are made of genuine vintage red deer stag. They are not all alike, but have similar bark that gives this Sweetheart a true remake.
