New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was carted off on a stretcher Thursday night following a terrifying collision with teammate Nolan McLean during a game against the Phillies at Citi Field.

Jared Young celebrates after hitting a solo home run during a spring training game.

The play unfolded in the top of the sixth inning when the Phillies’ Justin Crawford grounded a slow roller up the first-base line. Both Young and McLean, the Mets’ starting pitcher, converged to field the ball.

As Young dove toward the grounder, McLean attempted to jump over his teammate.

McLean’s knee made contact with what appeared to be the side of Young’s head during the play, sending Young face-down into the dirt. He lay there without moving for several moments.

Medical staff from the Mets dugout rushed onto the field to treat the 31-year-old infielder.

Trainers stabilized Young’s neck and evaluated him on the field before placing him on a stretcher.

Young offered a positive sign to the Citi Field crowd as he was driven off the field, raising his thumb to give a thumbs-up as fans responded with a supportive ovation.

Mark Vientos replaced Young at first base when play resumed.

The Mets have not yet released an official medical update regarding Young’s status. The team is expected to provide further details following complete hospital evaluations and concussion testing.
