The US and Iran Exchange Strikes

The US and Iran Exchange Strikes

The United States and Iran have exchanged several strikes since Friday. These renewed attacks are threatening to upend an already precarious peace deal between the two warring nations.

Both sides have accused the other of violating the terms of the agreement signed on June 17th. This is the first time the two warring countries have exchanged strikes since the signing of the interim peace deal.

Iran Declares Memorandum of Understanding A “Record of US Failure”

Iran has already blasted the US as liars. The “very nature” of the US is to break its promises and treaties, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday, following renewed attacks on the Islamic Republic’s coastal infrastructure.

Just last week, the ruling class was demanding more money for this war, signaling a potential reignition of the conflict after a tentative interim peace deal was signed.

Trump Says Billions of Dollars More Are Needed For Iran War

“The aggressor enemy’s… very nature is to violate treaties and break promises,” the IRGC said in a statement cited by Iran’s Fars news agency, as reported by RT. The US attacked Iranian facilities on Sunday morning using the “pretext of the IRGC Navy’s confrontation with a rogue vessel,” it added.

In response, Iranian forces launched ballistic missiles and drones at regional US bases on Sunday morning, the IRGC said. The attack destroyed eight military installations at the Ali Al-Salem base in Kuwait and the Fifth Fleet naval headquarters in Bahrain, the IRGC claimed.

The IRGC further warned the US of “a crushing response” to any new attacks.

It does appear that the US is rethinking its agreement, as most, including Iran, saw it as a complete surrender. None of the goals the US originally stated were achieved during the war that was started on February 28th, when Israel and the US attacked Iran.

Since the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the interim peace deal, the US and Iran have offered differing interpretations of the document. Tehran has insisted that any vessels passing the key waterway would need to get permission from the Iranian authorities and solely use routes designated by them. The US has demanded that Iran provide unimpeded access and charge no fees.
