Anti-gun lawmakers like to brag about how many “lives are saved” by the restrictive laws they pass that severely infringe on the Second Amendment rights of lawful citizens.
Usually, of course, they have no proof that their laws actually save lives, but they love to brag about it anyway. And their cronies in the anti-gun media join in on the farce, parroting their talking points and bragging about supposed lives saved.
Now, in the category of “things we didn’t expect, but should have,” a gun-ban proponent in the Minnesota legislature is bragging about lives saved by a law she says she helped pass, but isn’t really a law. Props to Cam Edwards at bearingarms.com for bringing this matter to our attention.
During a recent floor debate, Democrat state Sen. Erin May Quade shared a story about how she has seen firsthand the positive effects of previous North Star State gun control efforts she’s been involved in.
“I was in the library in my community and a woman came up to me and she said, ‘You saved my life,’” Quade said. “I’d never met her before. And I said, ‘Great, how?’ and she said, ‘The 24-hour waiting period that you passed in 2023. I was feeling suicidal. I went to go buy a gun, and I had to wait. And I’m alive today because of it.’”
Quade went on to brag, “Gun regulations save lives. Laws save lives. If there is even one child that lives in this state that doesn’t die because of gun violence, it is worth doing this today.”
Passing a gun control law and later finding that your law actually saved a life has to be a good feeling. There’s little wonder that Quade would want to proudly share that fact.
Unfortunately for Quade, she was lying the entire time. Don’t take my word for it, though. Take the word of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus (MGOC).
“Minnesota does not have a 24-hour waiting period,” MGOC said in a post on X. “Absolutely no idea what law Senator Maye Quade is referencing here.”
Whether or not Sen. Quade knows there is no waiting period law is anyone’s guess. Heck, she might not even know that she’s telling an outright lie about the fictitious law saving a constituent’s life. More likely, however, she made it all up, and her ignorance of the law got her caught.
Fortunately for her, nobody in Minnesota’s so-called “mainstream” media seems to care at all. Had a Republican made such a claim, and it had been pointed out as fictitious, it would likely have been big news in nearly every media outlet in the state.
Ultimately, there are a few lessons we can learn from this. One, Sen. Quade cannot be trusted. Once a liar, always a liar. Secondly, the so-called “mainstream” media in Minnesota is apparently as anti-gun as it is throughout most of the country.
