Liberty 9mm Spike Chosen by Brink’s for Executive Protection

Liberty’s high-velocity 9mm Spike chosen by the world’s oldest security firm

Liberty Ammunition announced this week that Brink’s U.S. has selected the company’s ammunition for executive protection duties, marking a significant endorsement from the security industry giant.

The Bradenton, Florida-based ammunition manufacturer will supply Brink’s protection teams with its 9mm Spike load, a specialized round engineered specifically for the demands of executive protection work. The 55-grain, all-copper projectile features an integral spike design that enables deep penetration through barriers while creating a permanent wound channel—critical capabilities when threats may involve vehicle glass, heavy clothing, or intermediate obstacles.

“We support several executive protection teams,” said Gary Ramey, CEO of Liberty Ammunition. “It’s always gratifying to receive professional feedback on the effectiveness of Liberty Ammunition technology. We are honored to also support the oldest security firm in the world.”

For protection specialists who may carry hundreds of rounds during extended details, the 9mm Spike’s lightweight NAS³ casing offers a practical advantage. Despite the reduced weight, the round delivers serious terminal performance: traveling at 1,900 feet per second and generating 441 foot-pounds of energy on target.

Founded in 1859, Brink’s has provided asset protection services for over 165 years and operates security operations worldwide.

Liberty Ammunition markets its defensive loads as meeting FBI protocols while offering reduced recoil and controlled penetration designed to prevent over-penetration—particularly important considerations in executive protection scenarios where collateral damage and liability concerns are paramount.

The selection by Brink’s U.S. represents another high-profile adoption of Liberty’s unconventional approach to defensive ammunition design, which emphasizes lighter projectiles at significantly higher velocities than traditional defensive loads.
