Sometimes a gun is built for no other reason beyond being absolutely cool. And while I am sure Gunwerks has a list of applications, the new Skunkwerks TAF rifle kit is the epitome of cool.

Gunwerks Skunkwerks TAF Rifle Kit – Performance in an Itty Bitty Package

The TAF fits that statement perfectly. It shakes assumptions about barrel length, portability, and what a precision bolt rifle should look like. At first glance, the TAF feels almost toy-like in size. It is definitely not a toy. The rifle uses an 11.25-inch carbon-wrapped barrel chambered in 6mm ARC. That round was chosen specifically because it delivers excellent performance and mild recoil in short barrels.

The action sits in a folding ClymR carbon fiber stock. Folded, the rifle measures under 20 inches. Deployed, it locks up solidly with no perceptible movement. The hinge design feels deliberate and has no play. Precision demands rigidity, and Gunwerks did not compromise it.

Precision Rifle

Despite its size, the TAF is still a precision rifle. While the short barrel does limit velocity, it does not cripple performance. Inside 500 yards, the rifle remains effective for medium game. On steel, skilled shooters can push it much farther. Despite its size, the recoil is very manageable. The rifle stays flat through the shot. Because a rifle this cool needs a can, Gunwerks pairs the rifle with its own 6+ steel suppressor for sound reduction.

The TAF arrives as a complete system. Gunwerks includes a Leupold Mark 5HD 2-10x optic. Like the round chosen for this build, the optic choice was intentional as well. The Mark 5HD keeps weight down while offering serious capability. Everything feels chosen with purpose. Skunkwerks added personality to the package. Buyers receive a Pelican Air case, a Yeti flask, and other extras.

NFA Landscape

The TAF rifle kit also touches on the changing NFA landscape. With the current tax payment removed for certain NFA items, compact suppressed rifles face fewer barriers. That shift makes projects like this a little easier to get. Limited production keeps the TAF rare. Gunwerks plans only a small batch. This rifle targets enthusiasts who appreciate engineering challenges and unique solutions. It is not meant to replace a full-size hunting rifle.
