[SHOT 2026] Sim-X Ammunition: Ultra-High Velocity, Low Weight

It is pretty rare to see something new come out of the ammunition side of the firearms industry unless a company is chasing a wildcat cartridge that they’re hoping will really take off. One manufacturer who surprised us at Range Day was Sim-X with their unassuming line of ammo that touts ultra-high velocities while pushing low grain weights for given cartridges.

Sim-X Ammunition

Sim-X Ammunition offers both recreational and practice range ammo as well as self-defense rounds. The practice ammunition is dubbed RANGECORE™ with a patented synthetic core inside a precision alloy full-metal jacket. Their self-defense ammunition is named Defensecore and features a patented synthetic polymer core, which is perfectly married to a proprietary jacket.

The ultra-high velocities are not just marketing hyperbole because the 9mm ammo is pushing 2,200+ FPS, which is scintillatingly fast for 9mm. All of their ammunition across all of their offered cartridges is also lead-free, which is nice for our health and any gun ranges – indoor or outdoor – that might have restrictions for that sort of thing.

Another “claim to fame” for this ammunition is the potentially wound channel and hydraulic shock that this spooky fast ammunition can create. In the photo below, you can see in the top white figure the wound cavity of a 9mm Defensecore round versus an unnamed competitor shown below. It’s pretty obvious that the Defensecore ammunition from Sim-X looks pretty traumatic.

Final Thoughts

It will be interesting to see if Sim-X expands their fast and light ammo into other areas like rifle rounds or even shotgun slugs. The sky is the limit if they have already identified their secret sauce and niche within the firearms marketplace.

As always, let us know all of your thoughts about Sim-X as a whole, their Defensecore, and Rangecore ammunition in the Comments below! We always appreciate any feedback and engagement you can give us.
