[NEW] Vortex Razor Gen 3, 4-24×44: The Best Of Both [REVIEW]

NEW from Vortex is the Razor Gen 3, 4-24x44mm FFP rifle scope! A major release that fills the gap in the Razor line between the Gen 3 1-10×24 LPVO and the 6-36×56 long range scope, this new 4-24×44 fits right in between the two.

I’ve had this on the range for the past month, and it’s safe to say that in every way the new 4-24×44 performs on par with the larger 6-36×56, except it’s smaller and has a smaller top magnification.

SPECS

  • Magnification: 4-24x
  • Objective Lens Diameter: 44 mm
  • Focal Plane: First Focal Plane
  • Reticle: EBR-7D (MOA)
  • Eye Relief: 3.3″
  • Field of View: 30.9′ – 5.3′ @ 100 yds.
  • Turret Style: Elevation – Locking Exposed, Windage – Capped
  • Tube Size: 34mm
  • Adjustment Graduation: 1/4 MOA
  • Travel Per Rotation: 25 MOA
  • Max Elevation Adjustment: 158 MOA
  • Max Windage Adjustment: 86 MOA
  • Parallax Setting: 15 yds – ∞
  • Length: 12.5″
  • Weight: 32.3 oz.

The glass quality is the same as premium alpha-tier glass that you need to see to believe. New model has the same EBR-7D reticle in either MOA or MRAD, FFP, 34mm main tube, and comes with the extras you expect from Vortex’s flagship line, like sunshade, caps, throw lever, etc.

So why the new model? It is exactly what it seems, smaller than the 6-36×56 model but not as small as the 1-10x LPVO. To save some weight and save some room, the 4-24×44 hits a middle-ground that shines for systems that don’t require all of the magnification the 6-36×56 Razor gives.

Mounting this on a 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10 has been nearly perfect, given the smaller size, but still high magnification. Edge-to-edge sharp clarity, amazing color, and bright light transmission, the new model does everything I’ve expected from it and more. Be it at 1,050 yards or 100 yards. Balancing a gas rifle is a bit easier with the lighter weight of the 4-24x44mm Razor, just due to how it sits on the gun.

While the 6-36×56 is still the King when it comes to long range precision shooting with Vortex optics, the 4-24x44mm fills a nice role and seems perfectly at home on gas rifles of any kind. Depending on your rifle setup, it might even find a nice place on NRL: Hunter rifles due to the lower weight compared to the 6-36 Razor 3 model.

MSRP is $4,700 and is available from retailers now!
