It seems the world of watches has evolved into small mini-computers worn on the wrist. It is not uncommon for the small wonders to provide weather, heart rate, and even ballistic solutions for shooting. While the technological advancement is impressive, at times, we yearn for simpler things. This is true regarding watches as well. While some may say the analog world is dead, I would argue that a resurgence is underway. Many companies are making great analog-style watches. A company that combines excellent functionality with a reasonable price point is 511. One of my favorites from their lineup is the 511 Pathfinder.
The 5.11 Pathfinder Watch – The Analog Solution
The 5.11 Pathfinder Watch is inspired by military watches worn around the world, where a utilitarian, no-nonsense approach and reliability in hostile environments are mission-critical. Phosphorescent quarter markers enhance readability in low-light conditions. A stainless-steel case with IP finish and scratch-resistant mineral crystal protects the watch’s dependable Japanese movement. Finished with a tough nylon band, this timepiece is good-looking for everyday wear, water-resistant to 300 feet, and ready for extreme duty. Imported.

Tested
5.11 was kind enough to send me this watch, and I put it through its paces. I saw this as a real-world watch and didn’t treat it like fine jewelry. I wore this watch during all my training and on several hunts. It got filthy, wet, and banged against countless things. It saw muddy range days and the insides of several animals on hunts. While I was not intentionally beating on it, I did not baby it. What I found was that it was 100% reliable in every situation.

The 5.11 Pathfinder Watch
The 511 Pathfinder is an excellent example of how analog cell watches can still shine. Unlike our high-tech counterparts, it requires no signal, satellite, or complicated charging procedure. It is a refreshing throwback to how sometimes simple things can be the best things. If you are looking for a good old-school style watch for training or everyday use, the Pathfinder should be on your short list.
