Bestech released the first production design of a young knife maker. The maker is James Arnold of Horizon Machine Works, and his knife is called the Clastic, a mid-sized folder with an avant-garde blade shape.
The Clastic is directly descended from an Arnold custom of the same name. The custom has been made with several different blade shapes but the Bestech production version arrives sporting the most flamboyant of its incarnations. It’s a heavily modified tanto, with an almost cubist vibe where the secondary edge is longer than the primary edge. With a length of 3.64 inches, however, both portions should able to do what needs to be done on a day-to-day EDC/hard use basis.
Performance is underlined by the presence of MagnaCut steel here. The Clastic is the third Bestech model to hit shelves, and we think it’s safe to say it won’t be the last. The MagnaCut formula, created specifically for knife blades, brings all the good stuff knife nerds want: edge retention, toughness, and stain resistance.
There’s an intriguing visual tension between the Clastic’s big and bold blade, and its thinnish, arcing handle shape. It puts the edge a tad below the center line of the grip, which may provide some additional leverage in downward cutting tasks. The scales themselves are made from titanium, with a frame lock on the off side, as well as a bespoke, sculpted, but non-reversible titanium pocket clip. The listed weight on the Clastic is 4.66 oz. Pretty reasonable.
