Taylorsville Homeowner Wounded in Head During Shootout with Intruder, Suspect Arrested

TAYLORSVILLE, NC — A 45-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting incident that occurred on September 22, 2024, during an attempted break-in. According to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, Samuel Deal, has been charged with multiple felonies, including breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm, and robbery with a dangerous weapon, after a violent confrontation with homeowner Gregory Cline.

The incident unfolded when Cline returned to his Taylorsville residence and discovered Deal inside. A confrontation ensued, during which both men exchanged gunfire. Cline sustained a minor head injury and was treated at a hospital before being released. The suspect fled the scene, prompting an extensive manhunt by local law enforcement. K9 units and drones were deployed in the search, which culminated in Deal’s arrest around 10 PM the same evening.

Deal now faces several charges, including felony possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and multiple drug-related offenses. He is being held without bond at the Alexander County Detention Center, with his first court appearance scheduled for September 30, 2024.

Authorities credited the successful capture of the suspect to the coordinated efforts of the Taylorsville Police Department, North Carolina Adult Probation and Parole, Alexander County Rescue Squad, and the Taylorsville Fire Department.
