Fordyce Shooting Victims: What We Know
A mass shooting at a Fordyce grocery store resulted in three deaths and ten injuries, including two police officers. The suspect was apprehended after a shootout with law enforcement. Here is what we know about the Fordyce shooting victims.
FORDYCE, AR (5-minute read) — A tragic mass shooting took place at The Mad Butcher, Fordyce’s sole grocery store, on Friday, June 21. The incident resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left ten others, including two police officers, wounded. The Arkansas State Police reported that the suspect, a 44-year-old from New Edinburg, was apprehended after a shootout with law enforcement and is currently being held at the Ouachita County Detention Center.
The suspect faces three counts of capital murder, with additional charges pending. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the shooting occurred inside or outside the grocery store or the type of firearm used in the attack.

Callie Weems
Among the victims was 23-year-old Callie Weems, who was grocery shopping when she was fatally shot. Callie was a mother to a 10-month-old daughter and worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Dallas County Medical Center. Her mother, Helen Weems, who has known the shooter since he was a child, confirmed the devastating loss.
Shirley Kay Taylor
Another victim, 63-year-old Shirley Kay Taylor, was reportedly checking out at the store when she was shot. Shirley’s daughter, Angela Atchley, described her mother as a dedicated and hardworking woman who cherished her children and grandchildren.
Third Unidentified Victim
A third victim who did not survive the attack has only been identified as a male. Callie Weems’ mother reportedly stated that the third victim was her niece’s father.
10 Injured Victims
The injured victims range from those with non-life-threatening injuries to those in extremely critical condition. Arkansas State Police Col. Mike Hagar emphasized the severity of the injuries sustained by some of the victims.
